Since 1979 NEMA has been recognizing excellence in design, production, and effective communication within museum publishing.

Celebrate your hardwork and submit your museum publications to the 2024 NEMA Publication Awards! Submit your most creative, inventive, or polished museum publication, in print or digital form, produced over the last year (2023). Complete an entry form and payment for each submission and send in your publication to NEMA.
 
Submission deadline: May 3, 2024

Publication Award Categories

  • Annual Reports 
  • Books (non-periodical publication excluding exhibition catalogues) 
  • Development Materials (annual fund, capital campaign, and fundraising materials)
  • Educational Publications, Materials & Kits (used before, during and after museum visits, or materials used to promote/explain educational programming)
  • Exhibition Catalogues (accompanying specific exhibits) 
  • Invitations (for exhibits, lectures, and programming) 
  • Marketing/PR Materials (posters, press kits, rack cards, event calendars, brochures)
  • Environmental design (large outdoor banners)
  • Newsletters & Magazines (periodical newsletters equal one entry, no duplicates needed)
  • Supplementary Materials (miscellaneous informational materials)

 


Eligibility
  • You must be a NEMA Institutional member
  • Only publications completed in the 2023 calendar year are eligible.
  • Only institutional members of NEMA or organizations that produced publications for institutional members may submit entries; individual and business members are not eligible.
  • NEMA Institutional members with budgets under $500,000 can submit one free entry.

Guidelines

  • NEMA Institutional members with budgets under $500,000 can submit one free entry.
  • If a museum won in a category in 2023, it can't submit to that category in 2024.
  • Judges decide awards per category/budget size and can move entries or create new categories.
  • Entries that previously won and haven't been redesigned are ineligible.
  • Institutions can submit up to 5 entries in one category.
  • Redesigned publications should include before and after samples as one entry.
  • Include ephemera if an invitation entry was mailed to your audience.
  • Digital publications for all categories are accepted.
  • Avoid using staples.
  • Entries will not be returned.

Entry Procedures

  1. Complete the required online entry form for each submission here.
  2. Prepare your submission
    • Mail Print Entries with a printed online entry form (sent to your email) to Amy Peters Clark, NEMA, 22 Mill Street, Suite 409, Arlington, MA 02476
    • Digital entries can be emailed to amy@nemanet.org use a file sharing service (Google Drive, YouSendIt, or DropBox) for large files
  3. Submit payment ($12 per entry)
    • Pay by credit card here or by check payable to New England Museum Association
  4. Submissions are due May 3, 2024.

*Incomplete entries may be disqualified.

As your museum produces publications, we hope you consider partnering with businesses that reflect the diversity of our communities and audiences we serve, including those led by Queer, Trans, Disabled, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and Women-Owned. We also encourage you to consider mitigating climate impacts when producing publications by setting sustainability goals, utilizing recycled paper, and other green energy-efficient practices.
